FAQWhen is the Aomori Nebuta Festival?
In 2026 it runs Aug 2 (Sun) – Aug 7 (Fri). The eve festival is on Aug 1 (Sat).
What time does it start?
Evening parades start at 19:00 on Aug 2–3 and 18:45 on Aug 4–6. On Aug 7 the daytime parade starts at 13:00.
What happens on the final day?
On Aug 7 large nebuta parade in the daytime, and in the evening there are fireworks and the floating nebuta at Aomori Port.
What time are the fireworks?
The 72nd Aomori Fireworks & floating nebuta are on Aug 7, approx. 19:15–21:00, at Aomori Port.
Is it held in the rain?
Parades are usually held even in the rain (floats are covered with plastic). The fireworks are not postponed; the go/no-go is decided at 15:00.
Can I watch for free?
Roadside viewing is free. Reserved seats (from 4,000 yen) are available if you want a guaranteed good spot.
Is there parking?
There are free (bus/car) and paid temporary lots. They may fill up, so consider public transport too.
Can anyone join as a Haneto?
Yes. Even without a team, you can join on the day if you wear the proper Haneto costume. No prior registration.
Can I join without a costume?
To dance in the parade you need the proper costume (including a flower hat). Costumes can be bought or rented in the city.
Is it OK with children?
Yes. Mind the loud fireworks and crowds, and give kids your contact details in case they get lost.
Can I use an umbrella?
Umbrellas block the view for people behind, so a raincoat is recommended.
What time is the traffic control?
Approx. 18:00–21:40 on Aug 2–6 and 12:50–15:30 on Aug 7. Times differ by road.
If the fireworks are cancelled, are they postponed?
No, there is no postponement. Cancellation is announced on the fireworks official site and phone line (017-752-8840).
